The General Directorate of Mint and Stamp Printing House shared a statement regarding the claims that the cost of 1 TL is 3 TL. The department denied the allegations.
With the depreciation of the Turkish lira, the production cost of the coins also exceeded their own value. On the other hand, a striking claim has been made recently about the difference in cost and value.
According to the claim made by the former Minister of Culture and Tourism Fikri Sağlar, the production cost of 1 Turkish Lira rose to 3 Turkish Liras. As the claim quickly resonated on social media, a statement came from the General Directorate of Mint and Stamp Printing House today.
Mint denied the allegations:
The General Directorate of Mint and Stamp Printing House, in the statement it shared on social media, “The statement that 1 TL is 3 TL is absolutely false and untrue.” he said. In the shared statement, it was emphasized that penalties will be applied to those who try to melt the coins.
The full statement shared by the Mint was as follows:
“Recently, it has been deemed necessary to make a statement in order to prevent misinforming the public with some untrue and baseless allegations regarding the coins of the Republic of Turkey in circulation.
Mint meets Turkey’s coin needs without any problems and in a way that balances supply/demand.
The coins produced by the Mint consist of metals containing a high security alloy.
The prices of Copper, Zinc and Nickel metals used in metallic alloys have been exposed to high fluctuations on a global scale, this has had a negative impact on the production of all coins in the world, and with the rebalancing of the markets, the coin production cost and nominal values have been rebalanced.
*In this context, the statement that the production value of 1 TL is 3 TL is absolutely false and untrue, as has been publicly expressed recently*
Such false statements should not be taken into account.
In addition, how and how the coins will be produced is regulated by the Law No. 1264.
The coins are also protected by the Communiqué on the Protection of the Value of Turkish Currency No. 32.
Those who try to melt the different types of metal alloys in these coins will face serious penalties.”
