Berlin An aging population, rising wages and new benefits are making care more and more expensive. On average, home residents pay a personal contribution of 2411 euros per month out of their own pocket, 278 euros more than at the beginning of 2022. The Paritätische Gesamtverband is already warning: “Anyone who needs care must fear poverty.”

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) and the traffic light coalition are planning minor corrections to long-term care insurance because of the cost explosion. So far, however, it has remained unclear what the fundamental reform that politicians are striving for could look like. Now there is a first suggestion.
