Expected announcement! Wi-Fi is going, Li-Fi is coming

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu announced today that Li-Fi will be used instead of Wi-Fi in the coming years. For its closest use, he pointed to the day when 6G wireless communication technology will enter our lives. So what is Li-Fi and when will we use it?

What is Li-Fi, how and when will it be used?

Li-Fi is a type of wireless connection that is still under development and is expected to replace Wi-Fi technology in the coming years. Unlike Wi-Fi, it uses visible light that the human eye can detect, not radio waves.

Of course, this has some advantages and disadvantages. High-speed data transmission can be given as an example as the biggest reason for preference. Because, in theory, it can transfer data 100 times faster than Wi-Fi. In the last tests carried out in the laboratory environment, it was observed that it transfers 224 GB per second.

The Starlink network is expanding its borders day by day. The company wants to increase the quality of the service it provides on aircraft.

Today, many people use 50 or 100 Mbps fiber or ADSL internet in their homes. There are even people with much slower speeds over the copper infrastructure. Therefore, the difference between 24 MB and 224 GB per second seems only imaginable for now.

Not just that. It will enable us to save 50-100 times energy, as it performs data transfer and lighting through a single device such as LED bulbs. In addition, many health problems such as headaches and cancer allegedly caused by Wi-Fi will disappear.

But as we mentioned, Li-Fi also has some disadvantages. We see the biggest example of this in signal and gravitational force. The Wi-Fi connection can transfer data in a certain area even if there are walls or other obstacles in front of it. However, as Li-Fi uses light, as we have stated, its signal will be cut off at the slightest obstacle in front of it. Of course, it will be unrivaled in the open field as well.

Of course, it’s too early to think about that right now. Because Li-Fi technology will begin to be included in our lives with 6G. The closest date for this seems to be 2030. In fact, if we consider that the 5G infrastructure will be established in our country by 2023, we can predict that we can experience Li-Fi as early as 2035.
