EU competition authority investigation against Yemeksepeti owner

The antitrust investigation into German food delivery giant Delivery Hero and its Spanish rival Glovo is getting even more comprehensive. In July 2022, Delivery Hero and Glovo centers were put under investigation in simultaneous raids in both Spain and Germany. After the first results, the European Union Antitrust Regulators Commission decided to expand the investigation. As you know, Delivery Hero became the owner of Yemeksepeti in Turkey after its acquisition in 2015.

Delivery Hero, owner of Yemeksepeti, is under antitrust investigation by the EU competition authority

Delivery Hero, which has become one of the world giants in food distribution, continues to acquire its competitors in Europe. Finally, Spain-based Glovo came under the umbrella of Delivery Hero. The company, which came to the fore in Turkey with its move to acquire Yemeksepeti, is in trouble with the EU competition authority.

The raid, which was previously carried out in July 2022, coincided with Delivery Hero acquiring ninety percent of Glovo shares. However, according to the statements made at the time, this was just a simple antitrust investigation.

Glovo was also serving in Turkey for a while.

Judging by the new details that emerged today, the European Union Antitrust Regulators Commission, also known as the EU Competition Authority, has expanded the scope of the investigation.

The Commission is responsible for inspecting companies that try to achieve monopolization within the EU and their acquisitions. However, this investigation by the commission does not always mean that the company changes the fair competition environment in its favor. Still, it is important that the investigation be expanded after a year.

The commission’s press release is as follows:

“The scope of the investigation, which initially included alleged market allocations, has now been expanded to include additional conduct in the form of no-poaching agreements and the exchange of commercially sensitive information.”

Currently, Glovo and Delivery Hero have not made a statement about the antitrust investigation. Berlin-based Delivery Hero was founded in 2011. It currently operates in more than 70 countries around the world. A number of different food delivery and express trade brands are under the company umbrella, including several through purchase. Glovo was founded in 2014. However, in late 2021, Delivery Hero acquired a majority stake in the company. The company, which also owns Yemeksepeti, made this acquisition in 2015.

How do you think the EU competition authority investigation against Yemeksepeti owner Delivery Hero will end? We are waiting your comments.
