Erste Group appoints ex-Bank Austria boss Cernko as new boss

Vienna Austria’s largest bank Erste Group has found a successor for the outgoing CEO Bernhard Spalt. The supervisory board has looked after the current corporate customer board member of the Austrian subsidiary, Willi Cernko, with the management of the bank from July 1st, the money house announced on Wednesday evening. For many years, 65-year-old Cernko was head of Bank Austria, which belongs to the Italian UniCredit, and was also responsible for the group’s Eastern European business. In 2016 he left Bank Austria and then switched to Erste Group as Head of Risk.
