Save yourself if you can – this is how the current situation among German energy suppliers and energy-intensive companies can be aptly described. A halt to the supply of Russian natural gas would threaten the existence of many of them in the medium term. So it is only understandable that the companies use every legal opportunity to prepare their supply contracts with their customers for such a worst case.

But that will not protect companies and, above all, the economy as a whole from the massive consequences of a gas supply stop. What they need now is clear perspective: who would be affected first by a gas shutoff? And above all: how will these companies be helped?
