Energy cooperation between Türkiye and China!

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar went to China after his visit to the USA and made important contacts. In China, Minister Bayraktar first met with the officials of the energy company SPIC, which has investments in Turkey. During the meeting, projects in the fields of nuclear and renewable energy were discussed in line with Turkey’s 2053 net zero target.

Bayraktar also met with Chinese Minister of Natural Resources Wang Guanghua. An agreement was reached between the two countries on cooperation in the fields of natural resources and mining, especially critical minerals and rare earth elements.

Bayraktar met with Zhang Jianhua, President of the China National Energy Administration, and discussed cooperation in the fields of nuclear energy and renewable energy. After the meeting Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Energy Conversion signed. Bayraktar stated that it is aimed to implement concrete projects as soon as possible.

Minister Bayraktar met with senior managers of Chinese energy companies, financial institutions and representatives of energy exchanges at Turkey’s Embassy in Beijing. New investment opportunities, especially critical minerals, were discussed with Liang Jun Xiang, President of TCC Company, which has investments in Turkey, and his delegation.

Public Savings and Efficiency Package was announced. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek discussed public regulations.

Discussions were held with representatives of CNOS, one of China’s leading nuclear companies, regarding both conventional and small modular reactors that can be built in Turkey. Different investment models for establishing a battery storage factory in Turkey were discussed with the CATL delegation, one of the world’s leading companies in energy storage systems.

Bayraktar met with CMEC Company President Wang Bo and his delegation, which carries out important projects in Turkey with both private and public institutions such as Eti Maden and BOTAŞ. In addition to existing investments, potential projects were discussed. Investment opportunities in large-scale renewable, green hydrogen and mining fields in Turkey were discussed with officials from ENERGY CHINA and POWERCHINA, two of China’s important groups.

Minister Bayraktar launched the Energy and Climate Dialogue Program between the two countries with his counterpart Jennifer Granholm in Washington, the capital of the USA, on May 8-9. Bayraktar also attended the signing ceremony of the agreement between BOTAŞ and the US energy company ExxonMobil, which will enable Turkey to supply approximately 2.5 million tons of LNG every year for 10 years.
