Electric car transformation has begun in Turkey, as in the rest of the world. Moreover, not only passenger cars, but also light and heavy commercial vehicles such as minibuses, buses, pickup trucks, trucks and trailers are included in this process. Moreover, since the electric car SCT base limit has been raised today, it is expected that there will be big decreases in the prices of many models.

Update for electric car SCT base limit!

In June last year, while the SCT base limit regulation had not yet been made for the electric car market, the base levels for automobiles were as follows;

  • Electric vehicles not exceeding 85 kW: 10 percent
  • Electric vehicles between 85 kW and 120 kW: 25 percent
  • Electric vehicles over 120 kW: 60 percent

Electric cars that can be purchased for 1.5 Million TL!

Later, in order to encourage electric cars and before the launch of Togg, a special base level was introduced for electric cars. It was like this;

  • Electric vehicles not exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 700 thousand TL: 10 percent
  • Electric vehicles not exceeding 160 kW and exceeding 700 thousand TL: 40 percent
  • Electric vehicles exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 750 thousand TL: 50 percent
  • Electric vehicles exceeding 160 kW and exceeding 750 thousand TL: 60 percent

However, due to the rising dollar exchange rate and inflation, these base levels were updated again in March this year and until today they are as follows:

  • Electric vehicles not exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 1 million 250 thousand TL: 10 percent
  • Electric vehicles not exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 1 million 350 thousand TL: 50 percent
  • Electric vehicles exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 1 million 350 thousand TL: 50 percent
  • Electric vehicles exceeding 160 kW and exceeding 1 million 350 thousand TL: 60 percent
New SCT base levels as of November 2023

So, what are the new SCT base levels as of November 2023?

The electric car SCT base level was updated as follows following the decision published in the Official Gazette today:

  • Electric vehicles not exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 1 million 450 thousand TL: 10 percent
  • Electric vehicles not exceeding 160 kW and exceeding 1 million 450 thousand TL: 40 percent
  • Electric vehicles exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 1 million 350 thousand TL: 50 percent
  • Electric vehicles exceeding 160 kW and not exceeding 1 million 350 thousand TL: 60 percent

In other words, while there will be no change for vehicles with engine power exceeding 160 kW, we will see big discounts for those whose engine power does not exceed 160 kW, if they fall into the 40 percent bracket with a difference of up to 200 thousand TL. However, on the other hand, brands that did not raise their prices in order to avoid exceeding the 40 percent Special Consumption Tax limit were given the opportunity to raise up to 200 thousand TL.

However, if the automobile market remains stable, this means that even if the price of vehicles exceeding 160 kW is cheaper than the versions that do not exceed 160 kW, they will be more expensive because more taxes will be paid.
