Berlin In 2021, the German economy is expected to grow by only 2.7 percent. According to Handelsblatt information, this is forecast by the Advisory Council for assessing macroeconomic development.
In their last report in March, the economic wise men had expected growth of 3.1 percent. The reason for the revision is likely to be the supply bottlenecks and the sharp rise in energy prices. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” reported about it first.
The growth should be made up for in the coming year. Then the wise expect a plus of 4.6 percent. For the price level, they expect an increase of 3.1 percent this year. After that, normalization should gradually set in. For 2022, the council still expects an inflation rate of 2.6 percent.
On Wednesday the wise men will present their annual report in Berlin. According to reports, this will lead to a novelty: there will be a stalemate when it comes to the question of state investment policy.

Stalemate on the debt brake
Council members Volker Wieland and Veronika Grimm therefore speak out against investments being established alongside the budget and thus outside the scope of the debt brake. Monika Schnitzer and Achim Truger also consider alternative approaches such as a loan-financed investment fund to be viable.
So far, there has never been such a tie between the wise men, because the expert opinion was otherwise always drawn up by five of them. However, the Union and the SPD could not agree on the occupation of the five wise men last year.
