E-Passport, E-Driver’s License and E-Blue Card Introduced

Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, who held a press conference at the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs, introduced the domestic e-passport. Stating that all work for mass production has been completed and that Turkey will produce its own e-passport as of August 2022, Soylu also touched upon the features of these passports. The Minister also spoke about the new e-blue card and new e-driver licenses.

According to the statements made by Süleyman Soylu, domestic e-passports, which will begin mass production in the coming months, will have a chip structure that allows contactless processing. In addition, these passports can be used for 10 years. Saying that there will be images from different parts of Turkey on every page of the passport, Süleyman Soylu stated that this will be the most secure passport in the world. Minister Soylu described the domestic e-passport as “very strong”. According to the statements made, the phrase “Turkey” will be included in the new passports instead of the phrase “Turkey”.

“The new generation chip passports, called e-Passports, were actually produced within the framework of a secure passport, which includes one of the basic conditions we signed regarding entry to the EU and visa liberalization. There is a chip supply crisis that has arisen due to the pandemic all over the world. The company in question had difficulties in meeting the supplies. We made an effort not to cause any trouble to our citizens. Many countries in Europe returned to their old passports, continued with their expired passports. We also experienced difficulties, but we tried not to make our citizens feel this.

Hopefully, in August, we will use our own e-passport, the most secure passport in the world. It has a contactless chip and many innovations. Its design is an original design. Each page will feature images from different cities of our country and a city-specific plant image. The validity period of the green passport, which was 5 years before, increases to 10 years in the new e-passport. There is Maiden’s Tower in the passport with a chip. On the second page, the features of our passport are displayed. There are variable microscripts. This passport has its own special lines. It has a special paint for picture protection.
