Dow Jones faces blackest September in 20 years

new York After the price losses of the past few weeks, investors on Wall Street are cautious: After the US stock exchanges started trading in the red on Friday, they recovered in the further course of trading. The Dow Jones is almost unchanged, the technology exchange Nasdaq is about one percent higher, the broad S&P 500 is up 0.8 percent. The former is about seven percent below the level at the beginning of the month and is facing its blackest September in 20 years.

“There is currently a tug of war on the market,” said stock market expert John Woolfitt from brokerage house Atlantic. On the one hand, bargain hunters are on the prowl. On the other hand, investors disposed of stocks that they no longer thought would fit into the portfolio in the current environment.
