Berlin Vladimir Putin is confident again. His reluctance and, as some said, helplessness, which he showed at the victory parade on May 9th, seem to have vanished. The rumors about his ailing health were also recently silenced.

On Monday of this week, he presented himself confident and relaxed on the occasion of the conquest of the Ukrainian region of Luhansk. The New York Times writes that Putin has regained his Swagger.

The new, old gesture of the Russian president is particularly striking against the background of the Russian army’s recent partial successes in eastern Ukraine. On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced it had taken the long-contested city of Lysychansk – the last bastion of the Ukrainian army in the Luhansk region. The entire oblast is now under Russian control. A success that, according to military experts, Russia was able to achieve primarily thanks to its powerful artillery.
