Domestic Simulator Bringing Surgery to Virtual Reality

The consortium led by Hacettepe University has developed a simulator that carries surgeries into virtual reality within the scope of the project it carries out. The simulator includes models with the closest level of detail to the human body.

While the Metaverse vision reminds the whole world of the potential of virtual reality, new methods that will enter our lives in this future continue to be developed every day. If the last of these Led by Hacettepe University It was developed within the scope of the project carried out by the international consortium.

The project named “European School of Modern Technology (EuroSOMT)” was carried out by Hacettepe University Department of Urology Lecturer Prof. Dr. Within the scope of ERASMUS Plus Higher Education Program, of which Emre Huri is the director, Developed with a budget of 300 thousand euros. The product created within the scope of the project aims to provide medical training, trial surgeries and the diagnosis of critically ill patients. to the virtual reality world carried it.

Trial surgeries can be done online:

The project, which was started with the aim of increasing the success of new techniques in surgery and the success of surgery in risky operations, brought engineers and scientists together to establish a modern technology school. At the end of the 1.5-year period within the scope of the project A simulator produced locally in Turkey was developed.

In the simulator, the human body, organs and veins were transferred to the virtual environment in accordance with reality. Thanks to this technology, virtual reality glasses are used for simulations. that surgeons are ready for surgery and that the risk of complications and length of stay can be reduced. specified.

In addition, the team developed the models they developed. Real human body dimensions with 3D printers produced. Thus, an alternative was created for the difficult supply of cadavers. prof. Dr. Emre Huri, in his statement, stated that technology started the reverse brain drain in medicine and that the company that makes simulations in the world wanted 3D models they developed by contacting them. Huri also stated that they are planning to expand their education in the international arena.

The project includes scientists from Hacettepe University, University of Leuven (Belgium), University of Perugia (Italy), Chosun University (South Korea) and International Continence Association (England).
