Instagram has implemented a Snapchat-like screenshot notification feature for a specific mode. For example, Instagram; It does not notify users when you take screenshots of direct messages, stories, reels, or profile information.
However, in disappearing messages mode, the situation is a little different. That’s when Instagram can send a notification to the other party.
However, other than the disappearing messages mode, Instagram does not notify users when you take screenshots of direct messages, stories, reels, or profile information.
Disappearing messages mode allows users to send custom content that disappears after being viewed. Just swipe up from the bottom of the conversation screen to activate it. If both parties have this enabled, you won’t be able to save or share content.
When a screenshot is taken in disappearing messages mode, a message saying “You took a screenshot” is displayed. If the other person takes a screenshot, “[kullanıcı adı] is labeled as “took a screenshot.” If you take a disappearing photo, a dotted circle will appear next to it that both parties can see.
In some cases, the circle may not appear and you may receive a new message notification instead. This may be an indication that a screenshot was taken. While others cannot report your screenshot activity, they have the option to block, restrict or report your account.
Since Instagram doesn’t currently have a feature that blocks screenshots, it’s possible for users to capture your content without your knowledge. Therefore, we recommend that you review sensitive content before submitting it.
If you need to take undetected screenshots in Lost messages mode for evidence in cases of harassment or threats, you can use Airplane mode. This prevents the app from detecting and reporting screenshots. On Android devices, swipe down with two fingers to access the notification panel and then turn on Airplane mode. On iPhones or iPads, swipe down from the top-right corner and tap the airplane icon.
As an alternative method, you can use a second device with a camera to screenshot the chat in disappearing messages mode. Instagram’s notification system works independently on each device and does not transmit actions across devices.
Additionally, you can use screen recording as an option. Instagram only detects screenshots, so if your phone is running Android 11 or newer, it should have this feature. Otherwise, you can download a third-party app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
While taking screenshots is useful for personal reference, it is crucial to respect privacy and comply with the platform’s guidelines regarding user data. When necessary, obtaining permission before taking screenshots can help you avoid legal consequences and possible deactivation of your Instagram account.
