Berlin When dealing with artificial intelligence (AI), politicians and experts warn against excessive regulation of AI providers such as the ChatGPT developer OpenAI. “Not everything that surprises us has to be regulated or banned right away,” said CDU European politician Axel Voss to the Handelsblatt.
The FDP MEP Svenja Hahn points out that ChatGPT as a general AI language model is not a danger in itself. “Therefore, over-regulation or even a ban would implode innovative power in the EU,” Hahn told Handelsblatt.
The reason for the debate is not only the AI tool ChatGPT. Google’s competing software, Bard, and programs that can generate images based on text descriptions are also causing a stir at the moment.
Experts assume that chat robot technology could trigger more radical changes than the introduction of the internet and smartphones.
