Dusseldorf The greater the financial worries of statutory health insurance companies, the more the health system as a whole is on the political agenda. Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach has announced that statutory health insurance (SHI) will become more expensive.
But there are even more radical plans: In order to fill up the coffers of the statutory health insurance funds, the upper limit for the health insurance contribution is to be increased. This would inevitably raise the income limit above which employees can take out private health insurance. A decision that could affect millions of people: Many people with statutory health insurance will have to pay significantly more and quite a few employees will have to leave private health insurance.
