Berlin It seemed already forgotten, but now it’s back again: the debate about an excess profit tax for companies. The special tax on war and crisis profits is finding more and more supporters, also because of the energy policy of the traffic light coalition.

For example, citizens have to pay hundreds of euros more a year through the new gas levy to save gas-importing companies that are in trouble due to a lack of deliveries from Russia. However, quite a few of the energy companies don’t actually need any help at all. On the contrary: your profits have risen sharply in some cases.

“We are approaching a winter that is causing many people financial problems,” says Andreas Audretsch, deputy chairman of the Greens parliamentary group. “In view of the burdens that many are shouldering, it cannot be justified that some large corporations are completely powerless to siphon off profits from the crisis.”
