Nvidia started to make huge profits, especially after its artificial intelligence breakthroughs. It is possible to see this in the recently announced third quarter earnings. This positive picture was disrupted by a data theft case filed against an Nvidia employee. The worst part is that Nvidia also made a huge profit after this alleged data theft. In this sense, the French company Valeo filed a lawsuit against Nvidia.
French Valeo files data theft lawsuit against Nvidia
Valeo, a 100-year-old company that develops automobile technologies, claims that its former employee, who moved to Nvidia, committed data theft. Accordingly, Muhammed Müniruzzaman, one of Nvidia’s senior managers, was working in the German branch of the French company in 2021. Müniruzzaman, who later moved to Nvidia, was caught in a video meeting between Nvidia and Valeo executives.
Accordingly, Nvidia and Valeo were working on a joint project in 2022. It was noticed that Müniruzzaman, who shared his screen during a video call meeting, forgot to open an application he was working on. Valeo employees, on the other hand, notice the source code behind Valeo’s proprietary software in this open application.
Meanwhile, Valeo employees take screenshots and continue the meeting. According to the company, former employees transferred gigabytes of data to Nvidia. The interesting thing is that Müniruzzaman, who testified to the German authorities in September 2023, admitted his crime.
Record growth from Nvidia! The biggest revenue is not from the RTX series
Nvidia broke a big record with its third quarter revenue. However, Nvidia achieved this record revenue with artificial intelligence accelerator GPU models.
The company claims that Nvidia has made its parking and driving assistance software more useful with these source codes. In this sense, the company’s German branch filed a lawsuit against Nvidia in California. Valeo claims that Nvidia saved hundreds of millions of dollars with this data theft. Accordingly, Nvidia has developed a competitor to Valeo’s driving assistance and parking assistance software.
Valeo is seeking significant damages in the lawsuit. It also wants the court to issue an injunction banning Nvidia and its affiliates from using Valeo code.
There has been no statement from Nvidia regarding this issue so far. However, the confession from its senior employee could get Nvidia in trouble.
Valeo provides services in many countries, including Turkey. The company, which produces important spare parts for the automotive industry, also has significant investments in automotive technologies.
