Berlin Even the cargo subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG couldn’t sugarcoat the situation on the rail network. Last week, DB Cargo AG asked its customers to talk to prepare them for the impending Easter chaos on the network and revealed on the first slide of the introductory presentation: “Limited capacities due to construction work, resource problems, disruptions: difficult conditions on corridors and diversions in 2022.”
Starting this Friday, DB Netz AG will close the most important freight transport route in the republic – from the Dutch North Sea coast to Basel in Switzerland – near Mannheim, Karlsruhe and Freiburg for 17 days.
1,000 DB Cargo trains alone are affected, a good quarter have to take long detours, either via France or Austria, and 280 have already been canceled as a precaution. “Nothing must happen on the diversion routes, otherwise we’ll have a real problem,” said DB Cargo.
