BRITS are in for a “dramatic end” to the week with torrential rain and thunderstorms set to batter the nation for the next seven days.
Over the weekend a yellow thunderstorm warning – which brings with it alerts for power outages – put a dampener on Brits hoping to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
And the wet weather is set to continue this week, with heavy gales, thunder and rain to move in by Wednesday, according to the Met Office.
Forecaster Steven Keates said: “Over the next few days the weather will be unsettled, changeable and perhaps unremarkable for the most part, a bit disappointing for the second week of June.
“Showers should hit parts of England to start the week, with the worst on Wednesday, before a more dramatic end to the week as heavy gales move in.”
He said a “heavy band of rain” will hit parts of southern England on Monday, pushing north as the day progresses, while remaining largely dry in Northern Ireland and Scotland.”
Mr Keates added: “From the middle of the week a new low-pressure front will begin pushing from the south-west, bringing a mixture of rain and thunderstorms in Northern Ireland and northern England.
“Wednesday will be the wettest day of the week, but areas in Scotland and parts of southern England should remain dry.
“However, Scotland’s week of charming weather will begin to fizz out, as the vigorous low pressure front moves north from Thursday, with heavy gales expected in western areas.”

Rain and fog to hit the UK tonight
According to the Met Office, parts of the south of England will be hit with rain, while fog will engulf much of the country.
This unpleasant weather comes after the Met Office issued a Yellow Weather Warning, claiming floods and thunder could hit the UK.
Of tonight’s weather, the Met Office said: “Some rain near the south coast of England and possibly North Sea coasts later, else dry with some mist and fog patches forming in central and southern areas.

As the Jubilee weekend comes to a close the roads remain busy, RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis said: “The fact the bank holidays coincide with the end of half-term in many places has the potential to put some extra pressure on the road network, so planning a journey carefully is important to beat the worst of any queues.
“The best way for drivers to avoid breaking down this week is to check over their vehicles before setting out – yet our research shows less than a fifth do this routinely.
“Making sure oil, coolant and screenwash are all at the right levels takes just minutes, as does ensuring tyres are free of damage and are inflated properly.
“A bit of TLC now could make the difference between a straightforward trip and one beset by a breakdown.”

Radar images ‘do not paint a pretty picture’ this morning
The Met Office says the picture around the country is wet and miserable this Monday morning.
But conditions are set to improve throughout the day.
It tweeted: “The radar does not paint a pretty picture across parts of northern, eastern and southern England this morning.
“Lots of spray on the roads, so take it steady if you’re heading back to work.
“Conditions expected to improve through the morning.”

The Met Office has revealed what kind of weather we can expect later this month.
“Thursday will probably be cloudy with some outbreaks of rain and a stronger breeze in the west whilst the east and southeast is more likely to be drier with some sunshine.
“Into Friday and the weekend, it should remain generally drier and more settled with lighter winds for the east and southeast, though some showers are still possible at times.
“For the west and northwest, however, it may be unsettled with spells of rain and strengthening winds for some. This northwest-southeast split is likely to continue into the following week, with the best chance of any drier and brighter spells in southeast England. Temperatures most likely to be near or just above normal, perhaps slightly warmer for a time in the southeast.

THUNDER and lightening caught on video
Brits took to Twitter to capture electric footage of lightening strikes across the UK.
The video, that was uploaded to Twitter, shows the lightening completely illuminating the sky.
This clip came before the UK was issued with a yellow weather warning.
Brits have been told to be careful of flash flooding and storms for Sunday and Monday.

Brits stoke up fires to keep warm in June
Some of us have taken to lighting the fire to warm up our homes, despite it being the start of summer.
One Brit shared an adorable photo of their pet pooch cosied up in front of the fire.
They had lit a roaring log burner, in a bid to ward off the lingering chill.
