Based on a real-life incident from 2009, Captain Phillips told the harrowing story of what happened when Somali pirates boarded and hijacked a container vessel, taking the ship’s captain hostage. Starring Hanks as the titular Captain Phillips, the Paul Greengrass-directed movie was a huge hit, grossing $220 million at the box office on a budget of $55 million.
