Oura Ring

The Oura Ring is an alternative to smartwatches and fitness trackers

31

The Oura Ring is an alternative to smartwatches and fitness trackers
  • Heritage Oura Ring, £234.64 ($299) from Oura – buy here

Why we love it: Very lightweight, partners with other apps including Natural Cycles, easy sleep tracking, long battery life, precise step counter, stylish

What can be improved: Colours, the size of the ring can be chunky and uncomfortable for some especially when sleeping, limited colours, need a subscription to work to full potential

The Oura ring is the latest fitness tracking creation many shoppers are raving about and is an alternative to smartwatches.

The Oura Ring syncs up to an app, like most wearable fitness devices, to monitor the wearer’s heart rate, temperature, activity and sleep schedule using research-grade sensors for an accurate insight into your health.

Most read in Gifts and Lifestyle

Two Sun testers put the Oura ring to the test to see if it was worth the hype and loved that it was super easy to set up and simple to find the perfect ring to fit their fingers, with no worries that the ring would slip off in their sleep or mid-walk.

Our reviewers also loved how easy it was for the ring to slip onto their fingers and how accurate it was in measuring their activity and health throughout the day.

They were also impressed with the long battery life, which can last up to seven days after one charge (some fitness devices do not last as long).

However, our reviewers also noted that the chunky design may be uncomfortable for some, especially when you sleep, and it requires shoppers to sign up for the Oura subscription to reap all of the benefits of the ring – an added cost some may not be too happy about.

If you are buying for the fitness lover or someone who wants the gift of a pleasant night’s sleep, this is something we’re sure your Valentine will appreciate.

GHD Original Styler

Straighteners are a failsafe gift idea no matter how far into your relationship

31

Straighteners are a failsafe gift idea no matter how far into your relationshipCredit: ghd
  • Original Styler, £129 from GHD – buy here

Why we love it: Streamlined, compact, heats in 20 seconds, lightweight, leaves hair straight and glossy, suitable for all hair types and lengths, easy to use, creates different styles such as straight or curl

What could be improved: Heat settings can’t be adjusted, not portable, or expensive, and no extra tools or brushes are included

The GHD Original Styler is a firm favourite for many, including us, and it’s a worthy investment.

The Original Styler is a popular purchase because the ceramic plates heat up to 185 degrees in under 30 seconds.

They’re also super easy to use, you simply switch it on and glide through the hair (no matter the hair length or texture) to leave your lengths straight and silky after use.

Our reviewers praised GHD’s Original Styler for being a timeless and failsafe go-to hair tool, suitable for all hair types and skill sets as it is easy to use.

The compact design makes it easy to use on short ‘dos, tame any flyaways and pack in your bag when travelling, which was another bonus for the Sun testers.

However, one grumble our reviewers had is the heat setting is not adjustable, unlike other competitors.

But if you know a beauty buff then the GHD Original Styler is sure to go down a storm.

If you’re unsure which GHD tool is best for you, we’ve whittled down some of our favourites, including the Original Styler, in our honest GHD review.

Rio Salon Pro Nail Lamp

Who needs a salon visit when you can DIY?

31

Who needs a salon visit when you can DIY?Credit: Sephora
  • Rio Salon Pro UV & LED Lamp, £30 from Sephora – buy here

What we love: Affordable, four different curing time options, UV and LED functions, long-life LEDs for hours of use, compatible with all nail polishes

What could be improved: Polishes not included, not compact enough to take on the go, wired design

Heading to the salon for a manicure can be expensive, especially when you opt for acrylics, gels, BIAB or even nail art, which is why many of us turn to home nail kits to perfect the beauty treatment in the comfort of our own home.

We have tried and tested a variety of the best nail lamps, but the Rio Salon Pro is one of our favourites as it uses UV and LED lights, and is super affordable too for just £30.

Our reviewers noted the benefit of the dual output lamp means you can use any polish, rather than having to search for specific polishes.

Another huge bonus is the auto timer offering 30 or 60-second countdowns, as well as a motion sensor, which is activated when your hand is slipped under the lamp.

It offers 50,000 hours of use thanks to the long-life LEDs, so is sure to be a great investment buy for someone who loves a manicure, or beauty in general.

The only downside our reviewers found was it came with no polishes, so you have to buy these separately.

Oodie Hooded Blanket

It's snuggle season after all

31

It’s snuggle season after allCredit: LAURA MULLEY
  • Oodie, £53.40 (Was £89) from Oodie – buy here

Why we love it: One size fits all, easy shopping, hooded design, longline, insulating sherpa interior, kangaroo pocket front, machine washable, various prints and designs.

What could be improved: Possibility of overheating, not zip up but pullover design, expensive, may not fit all sizes

The Oodie Hooded Blanket has been all we can talk about for quite some time, as the plush blanket and an oversized hooded jumper hybrid are perfect for keeping you warm at home.

Our reviewers loved this wearable blanket because it was super soft and insulating thanks to the Sherpa fleece interior and the ‘ToastyTek’ flannel fleece exterior.

Though this design is only available in one size (which does make for easy shopping, our Sun testers feared the sizing may not be ideal for taller wearers, and admitted the price meant they would only invest if it was reduced in the sale.

If you’re planning a cosy night cuddled up on the sofa, there is no better third wheel than the Oodie.

Mahabis Classic Slippers

A pair of slippers is a great gift no matter the occasion

31

A pair of slippers is a great gift no matter the occasionCredit: Mahabis
  • Classic Slippers, £99 from Mahabis – buy here

Why we love it: Comfortable, slip-on design, worn indoors and outdoors, contoured footbed, wool lining, half sizes, variety of colours, different varieties for winter and summer, made from recycled materials

What could be improved: Expensive, difficult to clean, some noted inaccurate sizing

The Mahabis Classic Slippers are a great buy for your Valentine to keep their feet warm and dry when pottering around in the home.

Our Sun reviewer praised these slippers as a hybrid between outdoor footwear and slippers because they are stylish, comfortable and insulating, plus they provide footbed support similar to a trainer to cushion your feet.

However, our tester noted the sizing was slightly inaccurate, especially for a slimmer foot, and they also found that they’re not the easiest to clean, as well as being quite expensive.

A separate concern was trying to keep the slippers free from any bad odours when not wearing a pair of socks – though overall they are praised by our testers for being comfortable, versatile and durable.

They say cold feet, warm heart, right?

Mylee Pro Salon Series Convex LED Lamp

The Mylee Pro Salon LED lamp is the perfect home gadget for those wanting a fresh mani

31

The Mylee Pro Salon LED lamp is the perfect home gadget for those wanting a fresh maniCredit: Mylee
  • Mylee Pro Salon Series Convex LED Lamp, £50 from Mylee – buy here

Why we love it: Fast curing, long life battery, lightweight, affordable, compatible with LED polishes

What could be improved: Short adaptor cord, only LED polishes are compatible

The Mylee Pro Salon LED Lamp is essential to cure your manicure in under a minute from the comfort of your own home, instead of a visit to the salon.

Our reviewers were impressed that this lamp truly does cure nails within 30 seconds, which makes it a super effective home lamp when perfecting your nails.

Our testers were not so impressed with the length of the adaptor lead, but the long battery life, affordability and how quickly it cured nails countered that one flaw.

Whether your Valentine is a budding nail technician or simply wants to save the costs of heading to a salon, this is a worthy investment this Valentine’s Day.

GHD Unplugged

Perfect for beauty buffs on the go!

31

Perfect for beauty buffs on the go!Credit: GHD
  • GHD Cordless Unplugged, £299 from Cult Beauty – buy here

Why we love it: Lightweight, ergonomic design, suitable for all hair lengths and types, portable, easy to charge, high heat

What could be improved: Short battery life, can make straightening whole head difficult, expensive

GHD has a variety of hair styling tools but for those who want to style their hair while on the go, the Cordless Unplugged is a worthy investment.

Our Sun testers loved how compact and lightweight these straighteners are, which are perfect to keep in a handbag when heading to the office or when travelling.

The Cordless Unplugged still reaches the high temperature of 185 degrees like other GHD hair tools, despite its size.

They also boast an auto shut-off after 30 minutes of inactivity and have a slide switch to prevent auto turn-ons when in your bag – a security feature our testers found super useful.

However, the Cordless Unplugged has a run time of around 30 minutes, which our testers noted is not necessarily long enough to use on the whole head for those with longer hair, though it is easy to charge with a USB port you can attach to a computer or plug into the mains.

If you are buying for a busy worker, traveller or hair perfectionist, this hair tool will be a huge treat.

Lelo Sona

Some reviewers have hailed it the "Rolls Royce" of sex toys

31

Some reviewers have hailed it the “Rolls Royce” of sex toysCredit: Lelo
  • Lelo Sona, £97.01 (Was £129) from Lelo – buy here

Why we love it: Compact sex toy, powerful suction, soft exterior for the delicate intimate areas, eight varied modes, 100% waterproof, subtle packaging, no batteries required only USB charging

What could be improved: Limited colours, difficulty changing settings, some intense settings can be loud, expensive

The Lelo Sona has garnered high praise from shoppers, as well as our Sun reviewer.

The Lelo Sona provides clitoral suction for intimate pleasure and is a compact hand-held device with eight settings, ranging from short, staccato bursts to longer options.

While our tester noted the range of settings made for a comfortable and pleasurable experience, the most intense option is louder than hoped, and finding the buttons to switch between the settings is a bit of a fumble.

It’s also worth noting that our tester also found that other rival brands are more affordable.

Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser

The Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser has been a huge popular

31

The Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser has been a huge popularCredit: HOTEL CHOCOLAT
  • Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser, £99.95 from Hotel Chocolat – buy here

Why we love it: Easy to use, easy to clean, compact design, can make lattes as well as hot chocolate, stylish on the worktop, the set includes a box of sachets, quick to create hot chocolate

What could be improved: Expensive, only compatible with Hotel Chocolat sachets, limited colours

The Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser has been a hugely popular purchase since it launched and makes a great gift as the stylish device creates creamy hot chocolates in under three minutes and at the touch of a button.

It’s easy to use, and also has a detachable that’s simple to remove and rinse under the tap to clean – and is also dishwasher safe.

Our Sun reviewer loved how simple, efficient and easy it was to clean, as well as how stylish the Velvetiser is.

Our tester could hardly fault the Velvetiser, except it comes with an expensive price tag considering it only makes one cup at a time and is not compatible with other brands.

But if you are willing to splash the cash on your Valentine who loves nothing more than a cosy night in with a warm cup of cocoa, this is a great treat.

Away Suitcase

The Medium Flex Suitcase is ideal for long-haul journeys and two-week vacations

31

The Medium Flex Suitcase is ideal for long-haul journeys and two-week vacationsCredit: Away
  • Away The Medium Flex suitcase, £315, Away – buy here

Why we love it: Sturdy, durable, four-wheel design, integrated lock, numerous compartments, hard case, expandable, 360 wheels for easy mobility, comes with numerous props inside including a cleaning kit, option to personalise

What could be improved: expensive, quite heavy at almost 5kg

Away is a popular luggage brand, which offers durable designs across all sizes, but the Medium Flex is ideal for long-haul trips and longer-length vacations as you can pack more inside.

The suitcase is fitted with a lock to keep your belongings safe, is expandable and comes in numerous colourways, but the case weighs almost 5kg, which can be limiting for tight luggage allowances.

Our Sun reviewer could barely fault the suitcase and loved how stylish, easy to move and pack this suitcase is, as well as its warranty in case something was to go wrong.

However, the price tag is not so appealing, fetching over £300, though if you are buying for a jet-setter, it could be worth the investment.

31

A flower subscription is a welcome alternative to one flower arrangementCredit: Flowerbx
  • Flowerbx Flower subscription, from £40 from Flowerbx – buy here

Why we love it: Various subscription offers, select a variety of flowers, different delivery options, flower deliveries come with a vase, care tips and flower food, options to upgrade any time, global delivery through other sites

Flowerbx has a variety of subscription offers, including roses, tulips, as well as other indoor plants, which can be delivered around most places in the UK, as well as around the globe.

Our Sun reviewer was impressed that a complimentary vase comes with the subscription as well as flower food to keep your flowers fresher for longer, plus subscription can be delivered weekly, bi-weekly or monthly across various months – depending on your preference.

Our tester could hardly fault the Flowerbx flower subscriptions, aside from the fact some may not be personalised.

Stanley Quencher H2.0

The Stanley Quencher has been a sell-out success

31

The Stanley Quencher has been a sell-out successCredit: Stanley
  • Stanley Quencher H2.0, £44.99 from Stanley – buy here

Why we love it: Lightweight, compact to take on the go, ergonomic design, 1.2-litre capacity, fitted with a straw, stainless steel to keep the contents cold for 11 hours or hot for seven hours, 90% recycled material, dishwasher safe

What could be improved: Expensive, some spillage, does not fold or compact away

The Stanley Quencher H2.0 is everywhere right now, hence why it’s a sell-out success.

Made from 90% recycled material, this stainless steel bottle is perfect for hot and cold drinks; it can keep your beverage hot for seven hours or cold for 11 hours, and holds over a litre of liquid to help keep you hydrated all day long.

Our Sun reviewer noted the straw, large capacity and temperature regulator made it easy to stay hydrated.

However, our tester found the large design a little clunky and not the most practical when on the go as it does not compress like some portable flasks or bottles.

If you are shopping for a fitness fanatic, the health conscious or someone who loves staying ahead of the trends, this will go down a storm.

Dreamland Heated Throw

Winter is here and we need a winter warmer

31

Winter is here and we need a winter warmerCredit: Amazon
  • Dreamland Hygge Days Luxury Faux Fur Warming Throw/Electric Blanket, £99 from Amazon – buy here

Why we love it: Safe to leave switched on all night, long cable, timer, six temperature settings, safe for use in a tumble dryer, fast heat up, cost-effective to run

What could be improved: Expensive, limited colours and patterns

Heated blankets have become hugely popular, and a cost-effective way to stay warm in the cold winter months without turning the heating on full whack.

The Dreamland blanket has six heat settings, as well as a timer option, so you can select the best run time to suit your needs and keep your bed warm before you go to sleep.

Our Sun reviewer noted the various heat settings and the timer options, making it easy to pre-heat your bed as well as keep you warm throughout your sleep, while also being super soft to the touch.

We also loved that this was one of the rare few you could tumble dry.

However, our tester was not quite so taken by the expensive price tag.

If you are looking for a cosy night in, or to keep your partner a little warmer when you’re not around, this heated blanket will come in use.

Why we love it: Super flattering, lightweight, breathable, form-fitting, non-slip, hidden waistband pocket, four-way stretch, sweat-wicking

What could be improved: Expensive, not seamless

Lululemon has been the go-to for many when it comes to activewear, including the Align Super High Rise Pant, which has garnered glowing reviews from our tester.

They praised these leggings for being lightweight, breathable, super flattering and figure-hugging without falling.

Our reviewer can hardly fault the Align Super High Rise Pants, except for the price tag, which may be expensive for some shoppers.

Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation

31

Charlotte Tilbury’s Beautiful Skin Foundation is one of the brand’s popular itemsCredit: Charlotte Tilbury
  • Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation, £39 from Charlotte Tilbury – buy here

Why we love it: hydrating, lightweight, buildable coverage, compact, easy to get those last remnants, dewy finish, controlled pump and amount, colour match

What could be improved: Small tube, can be sticky at first, not refillable

The Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation is one of the brand’s most popular products, providing medium coverage and a mega-dewy finish.

Our Sun reviewer likened this beauty product to a cosmetic and skincare hybrid, thanks to the inclusion of hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin to enhance the skin’s glow.

Plus it comes in over 30 shades to suit all skin tones.

However, our tester found they got through the product quickly even when using the product sparingly, which means it may not be as purse-friendly as others.

But if your partner loves their make-up, or needs a stock-up of their favourites, the Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation has been praised as the best foundation overall.

Laneige Lip Mask

The Laneige Lip Mask is a hugely popular beauty item that many rave about

31

The Laneige Lip Mask is a hugely popular beauty item that many rave aboutCredit: Laneige
  • Laneige Lip Mask, £19 from Beauty Bay – buy here

Why we love it: Deeply hydrating, comes with a silicone applicator for application, a little goes a long way, various flavours, rich in antioxidants, large quantity of 20mg

What could be improved: Mid-range price

Laneige’s Lip Mask has proved to be hugely popular with shoppers, as it has gone viral on social media and proved to be a sell-out success.

The Laneige Lip Mask is an overnight mask to combat dry and chapped lips, though some may use it during the day for extra hydration.

Our Sun reviewer loved this mask because it was deeply nourishing, a little goes a long way and it contains 20mg of product in one pot whereas other lip masks can measure 4g.

We also love the dainty applicator, which gives a smooth applicator and prevents the product from being contaminated.

Our tester also noted it comes with a mid-range price tag, but it is not as expensive as other luxury brands.

If you are shopping for a beauty buff, a trend follower or planning for a kissable Valentine’s Day, this product is an appropriate gift.

Arena Flowers

A dozen red roses is a classic Valentine's gift

31

A dozen red roses is a classic Valentine’s giftCredit: Arena Flowers
  • Arena Flowers A dozen red roses, £37 from Arena Flowers – buy here

Why we love it: Variety of flower gifts from subscriptions to hand ties, wide choice of flowers, subscriptions available, good delivery options

What could be improved: No complimentary vases included in the purchase

Whether you are shopping for a flower subscription for your Valentine, a one-off bouquet or a letterbox gift, there is a huge variety of options so shoppers are spoilt for choice.

Our Sun reviewer recognised Arena Flowers as the best weekly subscription service when shopping for flowers, especially as they can be delivered on several days (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday) and shoppers can choose between a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly subscription basis.

We also love that Arena Flowers offers pet-friendly floral arrangements.

Our only grumble is you have to pay extra for a vase, whereas some flower subscription retailers offer a free vase.

Freddie’s Flowers

Flower gifts from £25 are reasonable in our opinion

31

Flower gifts from £25 are reasonable in our opinionCredit: Freddie’s Flowers
  • Ever Yours Flowers, £35 from Freddie’s Flowers – buy here

Why we love it: A variety of flower arrangements, the option to select subscriptions, complimentary vase on your first purchase, free standard delivery, letterbox delivery, more affordable options

What could be improved: Nothing

When testing, we were stumped to find fault with Freddie’s Flowers as it offers everything from letterbox deliveries to classic bouquets, as well as more decadent flower bundles.

There is also an option to sign up for a subscription, plus every customer will receive a complimentary vase on their first purchase, which is a huge incentive.

Our reviewers loved how the bouquets are delivered (by van or bike), and that you also receive a guide on how best to arrange your blooms.

It also scored top marks with us for the flexibility of the service, which you can skip or cancel if needed.

So whether you are sticking to tradition and buying your lover flowers for Valentine’s Day or signing up for a subscription to inundate them with monthly blooms, Freddie’s Flowers has you covered.

Simba Hybrid Mattress

It ticks all our boxes

31

It ticks all our boxesCredit: Simba
  • Hybrid Original Mattress, from £599.25 (Was £799.99) from Simba – buy here

Why we love it: durable, supportive, arrives compact, easy to assemble, fuss-free, long-lasting, micro-spring and cushion foam hybrid, medium-firm support, 100% recyclable, heat regulating

What could be improved: May require deep fitted sheets, and needs time to unfold when first opened to aerate and expand

If your partner struggles to sleep at night, or you’ve worn your mattress ragged and it’s time to invest in a new one, we strongly recommend Simba’s Hybrid Mattress.

There are numerous benefits to Simba’s Hybrid mattress range – not only is it currently on sale, but it provides the necessary support and cushioning for all sleepers, whether you rest on your front, back or side.

Our Sun reviewer could hardly fault the Simba Hybrid Original Mattress, aside from the fact it needs time to inflate after being compressed in a box for easy shipping, and the deep mattress will require deep fitted sheets.

Hello Klean

Up her shower game with this clever filter

31

Up her shower game with this clever filterCredit: Alicia Miller
  • Shower Filter, £44 (Was £65) from Hello Klean – buy here

Why we love it: Easy to fit, looks stylish, products clean well, makes hair feel softer

What could be improved: Doesn’t fit with every style of bathroom, replacement filters are expensive, expensive

If you know someone who loves a beauty gadget or is obsessed with her hair, a Hello Klean shower filter might make a great gift – especially if she lives in the south of England where the water is typically very hard.

We tested it out, and after a couple of weeks of use, our tester noticed that her skin felt softer and smoother, and her hair condition was improved too.

Using the Purifying Shower Head even improved the water pressure in our shower.

The one slight downside is the price, with replacement filters coming in at £120 a year on top of the cost of the device.

Ridgeview Bloomsbury NV

This English sparkling wine scored highly on our tests

31

This English sparkling wine scored highly on our testsCredit: Siobhan Grogan
  • Ridgeview Bloomsbury NV, £29.95 from Slurp – buy here

Why we love it: Stylish label, from a family-owned winery, delicious refreshing taste with notes of tropical fruit

What could be improved: As expensive as champagne

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a loved one than by popping open a bottle of fizz – this English wine gets a 5/5 score from us.

Our tester found this wine delicious, saying that “you’d be hard-pushed to tell this apart from even the finest champagne”.

They were impressed by its heritage too, coming from a family-run winery with a wine that was even drunk at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

It’s not the cheapest bottle of wine you can buy, but certainly one to show someone special how much you care.

A made-to-measure skincare subscription service

31

A made-to-measure skincare subscription serviceCredit: Emmie Harrison-West
  • Personalised Skincare Subscription, £24.99 a month from Skin + Me – buy here

Why we love it: Personalised for your skin’s needs, ‘daily doser’ dispenses just the right amount, delivered to your door, fully recyclable packaging

What could be improved: Pricier than some other skincare, some ingredients may cause sensitivity at first

If you (or your other half) have seen Skin + Me all over social media and you’re wondering if it’s worth the hype, we’ve given this subscription skincare service a full review.

In tests, we loved how easy it was to sign up for and that you feel like you’re getting a personal dermatologist assessment.

What was most impressive, though, was “a staggering difference in [our tester’s] skin”, which had her regularly receiving compliments.

Other than the price (£24.99 a month), our tester found hardly anything negative to say about it at all.

If you’re buying for someone into their skincare or who has been keen to try Skin + Me out, we recommend it.

Create perfect curls every time

31

Create perfect curls every time
  • Curve Creative Curl Wand, £149.99 from GHD – buy here

Why we love it: creates natural-looking curls, heats up quickly, good for all hair types, easy to use

What could be improved: expensive, only one heat setting

It’s another GHD tool, and this time one for creating curls – and the Curve Creative Curl Wand has come up top in our tests.

Our Sun reviewer is a total convert to this sleek hair tong, saying that it helped her hair hold a curl better than any other tool she’d tried.

It’s expensive, but if worth it for the body and the curl it gives the hair, in our opinion.

If your loved one has had her eye on this for a while, it would be a great Valentine’s Day gift.

Shark FlexStyle 5 in 1 Hair Styler & Dryer

Five hair styling tools in one

31

Five hair styling tools in one
  • Shark FlexStyle 5 in 1 Hair Styler & Dryer, £300 from Argos – buy here

Why we love it: Neat storage case, lightweight and easy to use, creates a range of different curls and waves, cheaper than the Dyson Airwrap

What could be improved: Still an expensive tool, curls don’t last long, a bit fiddly to press the buttons

Anyone who knows a thing or two about beauty will have heard of the Shark FlexStyle – a clever 5-in-1 hair styling tool that’s been compared to the Dyson Airwrap.

We’ve given it a full review, scoring it an impressive 4 out of 5 overall, with our tester loving the effect it had on her hair, whether drying it smooth and straight or creating curls.

However, one common problem is that the curls don’t last long (a similar issue with the Airwrap), but using styling products and the tool’s cold air button can help with that.

If you’re considering splashing out, read our honest Shark FlexStyle review here first.

Why we love it: looks great, handy remote control, timer options, has a relaxing ‘breathing’ mode

What could be improved: Expensive

Set a romantic scene this Valentine’s Day with this dreamy NEOM essential oil diffuser, which emits a gentle mist of fragrance along with light.

When testing the best electric diffusers this came out top, with our reviewer calling it “a lovely addition to a table” that “fills a room nicely without being overpowering”.

We think this would make a great gift for anyone who loves beauty. wellness or interiors.

31

Wake up better with a Lumie
  • Lumie Bodyclock Rise 100 Alarm Clock, £99 from Amazon – buy here

Why we love it: Wakes you up gently in the morning, looks great, can help to improve sleep patterns and combat SAD, easy to use

What could be improved: Expensive compared to other alarm clocks, wellness effects aren’t guaranteed

Lumie alarm clocks have risen in popularity in recent years as a way to enhance your well-being, sleep and wake up better, and even combat SAD (seasonal affective disorder) – and we’ve put it to the test.

Our tester loved how chic it looked on her bedside table and was impressed that the sunlight-mimicking light did wake her up in the morning – although if you’re a deep sleeper, you may worry that you’ll sleep through it (luckily there’s an alarm too).

It’s a thoughtful gift for anyone looking to enhance their sleep or well-being (and you can both benefit from it too!).

Dryrobe Advanced Long Sleeve Changing Robe

Warm and waterproof

31

Warm and waterproof
  • Advanced Long Sleeve Changing Robe, £165 from Dryrobe – buy here

Why we love it: Comfy, warm, waterproof and windproof, practical and lightweight

What could be improved: Expensive, armholes are quite large

Although technically a ‘changing robe’ for, say, swimming or exercising outdoors, the Dryrobe has now become a fashion statement in its own right – and we love it.

Our tester wore it out in all weathers and it kept her warm and dry, with plenty of practical pockets, and it didn’t swamp her petite frame.

If your partner is a fitness fan, someone who loves the great outdoors or is just after a cool winter cost, the Dryrobe is an excellent choice.

  • Medik8 skincare, from £8 from Medik8 – buy here

Why we love it: Reduces fine lines, gives skin a glow, easy to understand

What could be improved: Not the cheapest, takes a while to see results, and the choice can be a bit overwhelming

If you know any skincare obsessives, listen up, as Medik8 is the brand to buy.

We had one Sun writer test out a full Medik8 skincare routine for two months – and by the end, she was completely sold, reporting that her fine lines appeared reduced and her skin looked brighter.

One of our tester’s favourite products (and a Medik8 best seller) is C-Tetra Luxe Serum, an oil-based vitamin C that she said made her skin feel “really silky” and she would purchase again.

Featuring a high 14% skin-brightening vitamin C in a non-irritating formula, it’s certainly one Medik8 product to have on your radar when shopping.

And if the large range of Medik8 products online seems a little overwhelming at first, luckily there are some helpful ready-made skincare regimes you can buy.

  • Medi Lift High-Performance EMS Mask, £368 (Was £460) from Facegym – buy here

Why we love it: tightens and lifts skin, travel-friendly, easily fits into existing skincare routine

What could be improved: expensive, some might find the twitching sensation uncomfortable

Stop your loved one from shelling out on expensive salon facials by gifting her with the smart technology to do it herself at home.

We’ve put the Facegym Medi Lift EMS Mask to the test to see if it’s worth the money – and it scored almost full marks with our tester, who called it “a game changer”, with visible results from the first use.

The major downside is the high price tag – although it does currently have almost £100 off right now.

Kuddly Hoodie Blanket

Perfect for snuggling up on the sofa

Perfect for snuggling up on the sofaCredit: LAURA MULLEY
  • Hoodie Blanket, £29 (Was £89) from Kuddly – buy here

Why we love it: super-soft and warm, machine washable, handy front pocket

What could be improved: bulky and takes up a lot of space, one size might be too big for petite people, expensive at full price

If you’re looking for an alternative to the Oodie, Kuddly’s hooded blankets are a great option.

We’ve compared the two, and we love Kuddly’s for their super-snuggly feel, how easy they are to care for and one-size-fits-all fit (maybe a bit too oversized for some, but it’s certainly cosy!).

It may not be your typical Valentine’s Day gift but it’s a great excuse to snuggle up on the sofa together with a film or Netflix series.

What to buy the woman who has everything?

Buying the best gift for her can be difficult in the first place, especially if it seems they already have everything.

If you know someone who has everything, but you still want to treat them we recommend buying a gift you can personalise or customise.

An extra thoughtful gift, whether it is a purse or travel wallet with their name, or initials on it shows you have gone the extra mile.

Not quite right? Another popular choice is to buy a woman who has everything is a voucher for an experience, as gifting her some quality time together as a couple is more meaningful than any object.

Red Letter Days, Virgin Experience Days and Buyagift are popular retailers for experiences and vouchers for individuals, couples and more.

What is the best gift for a girlfriend or wife on her birthday?

When shopping for the best birthday gift for your girlfriend or wife there are plenty of options to choose from.

Firstly it is important to establish your partner’s interests to help whittle down the selection, before selecting your budget.

If your girlfriend or wife loves jewellery, we recommend expanding their collection of jewellery with a new necklace, pendant, or signet ring, though a jewellery box or travel jewellery box is also a great investment to house their valuables.

If your partner loves their skincare and make-up, then investing in the new beauty buy is a hugely popular option, or maybe even a spa day to help them enjoy a pamper.

Buying for a birthday may be different to buying for Valentine’s Day or Christmas as a birthday is to celebrate that one individual, and, in our opinion, more of a special day than the other dates in our diaries.

What is the best anniversary gift for her?

Whether you are celebrating an anniversary following years of being boyfriend or girlfriend, or a wedding anniversary, marking the occasion will mean something to the pair of you.

Some may shop small with a bouquet, some fizz, or tasty chocolate treats.

However, others may wish to blow the budget and celebrate with a hugely generous gift, even if they have been married for 50 years, the choice is up to you.

Some may choose to whisk their partner away for a holiday, city break, or spa day, while others may book a romantic dinner for two, just to spend quality time together as a couple.

However you decide to spend the anniversary is up to you, but a card goes a long way, and it’s the thought that counts.

What should I gift a friend for her new house?

If you are buying your friend a gift to celebrate their new house, be it their first rental, purchase or next move, it is a milestone worth celebrating.

Typically the first move may warrant a bigger gift such as a new candle, lamp, or indoor plant, while others may invest in home accessories and home scents, such as The White Company candle.

Others may come bringing their friend a bottle of fizz, or another beverage of their choice.

One gift that often comes in handy is a toolkit, or new set of paintbrushes as there’s no doubt a bit of DIY will be on the horizon.

What is the best gift for my sister for her wedding?

If your sister is getting married you may be wondering what to buy her for the special day.

In some cases bride and groom will share a gift list of items they would like, some may even have a honeymoon fund or charity to donate to.

However, if you would like to give a physical gift then something memorable and sentimental goes a long way, as other guests will typically buy generic gifts, such as new cutlery, candles, and home gifts.

We recommend buying your sister an item of jewellery you could personalise with a photo of you both, or the newlyweds inside, perhaps a photo frame with wedding photos in, or an experience for you two to catch up after and reminisce on the wedding after the ceremony.

Alternatively, why not get creative and create a photo album through the years with pictures of you and your sibling as a child until now, which you can both continue to add to as the years go on?

When is Valentine’s Day 2024?

Valentine’s Day always falls on the 14th of February, and this year it will be marked on a Wednesday.

Valentine’s Day falls on the day after Shrove Tuesday – also known as Pancake Day, so it’s a busy week of celebrations.

If you have yet to buy your valentine a gift, then don’t panic there is plenty of time to do so.

However, if you are booking a restaurant or mini break, we recommend you book in advance as it can be booked up quickly.

What’s the best Valentine’s gift for her?

There are plenty of gift ideas for those looking to buy the best gift for her this Valentine’s Day.

Like most gift-giving occasions it is paramount to decide your budget and consider the recipient’s needs or interests, so in the weeks running up to Valentine’s Day get probing, and listen to anything they need, or have run out of.

Typically people will buy some flowers, a single red rose or bouquet of a dozen roses, even a box of chocolates or a card for their partner come 14th February.

However, others may wish to go all out, in which case jewellery, fragrance, or a spa break are great options and romantic too.

What are the most popular Valentine’s Day gifts for women?

The most popular, and stereotypical, gifts to buy your lover come Valentine’s Day often include a box of chocolates, or flowers – mainly a single red rose or a dozen red roses.

Some often gift lingerie, sex toys or nightwear to spice up the romantic day.

Some may appreciate a date night at their favourite restaurant, or buying ingredients to cook a tasty dish at home.

Jewellery is also a popular option and fragrance gift for the beauty buffs out there.

Some may wish to go all out to spoil their partner on Valentine’s Day, which may see them whisked off to a spa for the day, weekend, city break, or a week-long vacation in the sunshine for some quality time together.

What should I get my girlfriend for our first Valentine’s Day?

If you have recently started dating someone and celebrating your first Valentine’s Day you may be torn about what to buy them.

While you will no doubt want to impress your new romance do not feel pressure to spend a fortune on the gift, though if you want to and can afford to is up to you.

Typically people receive flowers, a cuddly toy, a box of chocolates or a small gift on their first Valentine’s Day.

Some may give a photo album to mark the cute dates they have shared so far (and hopefully the many more to come), while others may gift. a single photo frame.

Lingerie and sex toys are also hugely popular, as well as jewellery for a tame gift.

What can I get her for Valentine’s Day on a budget?

If you are on a budget but still want to buy your partner, whether you are newly dating, officially boyfriend and girlfriend, or married, something special for Valentine’s Day do not fret.

Firstly, remember it is the thought that counts, so even if you only give your valentine a card, it is still a thoughtful gesture.

If you are looking to give a physical gift we recommend sticking with tradition and buying a box of chocolates, your Valentine’s favourite sweet treats, wine or fizz.

A single red rose is also a great option, and less expensive than a full bouquet of red roses.
