Deputy head of the banking association resigns after a year

Henriette Peucker at the Handelsblatt Bank Summit

The 53-year-old from Frankfurt has repeatedly proven that she can reorient herself.

Frankfurt The deputy general manager of the Banking Association (BdB) is leaving her employer after just one year. The lobby organization of the German private banks announced on Tuesday that Henriette Peucker will leave the association at the end of the month in order to reorient herself professionally.

Peucker only switched to the BdB in August 2022 from the communications consultancy Finsbury Glover Hering. There she had to step in immediately as a crisis manager because the then general manager Christian Ossig had dropped out after a serious accident.

Peucker temporarily headed the association for months and, according to those involved, did a good job. When Ossig resigned from his post at the end of January, Peucker applied for his post – but was defeated by long-time Commerzbank lobbyist Heiner Herkenhoff.

According to financial circles, the chemistry between Herkenhoff and Peucker was not the best. This is probably one of the reasons why the 53-year-old from Frankfurt decided to keep an eye out for new tasks.

Peucker has repeatedly proven in her career that she can reorient herself. After graduating from high school in Frankfurt, she studied law and politics in Paris and then joined the French political consultancy ESL&Network.

From 1997 Peucker worked as an investment banker in London – first for Schroders, then for Citigroup. In 2003 she moved to Deutsche Börse, where she headed the policy and regulation departments. From 2010 she set up the offices in Berlin and Brussels for the communications agency Hering Schuppener.

Commuter between communication and banking industry

“As a Frankfurt resident, I’ve always had a connection to banks,” Peucker told the Handelsblatt at the end of 2022. Financial topics were also what she enjoyed most as a communications consultant. “That’s why I’ve switched back and forth between the two industries several times in my career.”

It is not yet known in which area Peuck will work next. In any case, she will remain active as a member of the supervisory board at the online drug retailer Redcare Pharmacy. At the MDax group, which used to be called Shop Apotheke and competes with Doc Morris, among others, she has been on the control committee since 2021.

The BdB must now look for a successor to Peucker, who is responsible for the politics and innovation division at the association. The BdB represents the interests of around 190 private banks and fintechs. Since big banks like Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank often have different priorities than small private banks, there is always friction behind the scenes.

BdB President and Deutsche Bank boss Christian Sewing said goodbye to Peucker with warm words. “With her expertise, her political intuition and her leadership qualities, which she showed in particular as acting head of the association, she made an important contribution to the successful work of the association.”
