Marcus, who was previously the chairman of PayPal and joined Facebook in 2014, was co-creator of Diem, a cryptocurrency project started by Facebook, but announced on his Twitter account that he would step down.
It was also stated that Marcus’ reason for leaving was to pursue other projects. Marcus is also considered an early supporter of the cryptocurrency.
Stephane Kasriel will take over as head of the Financial Services Division, where Marcus is at Facebook, now Meta.
