Munich, Dusseldorf The month-long inheritance dispute in the Thiele house has come to an end for the time being. On Tuesday afternoon, the Heinz Hermann Thiele Family Foundation announced that it had started work. Despite pending lawsuits, the government of Upper Bavaria recognized the foundation on April 6th.
The foundation is to manage the majority shares in the industrial companies Knorr- Bremse and Vossloh. It thus includes a large part of the €17 billion legacy left behind by the entrepreneur Heinz Hermann Thiele, who died in 2021. The founding of the foundation was Thiele’s wish, but it was the subject of heated debate in his family for almost a year.
In particular, daughter Julia-Thiele Schürhoff and Thiele’s second wife Nadia have fallen out over the question of the distribution of power. During his lifetime, Thiele had not managed to lay down the legal requirements for the foundation. He left his heirs an unclear situation: Nadia is formally the pre-heiress, but only until the assets are transferred to a foundation.
