Pop singer Britney Spears (39) has completely regained her freedom after 13 years under guardianship. According to consistent media reports, a judge in Los Angeles lifted all guardianship requirements on Friday. Judge Brenda Penny complied with a request from the singer’s lawyers at a hearing.
At the end of September, the judge had already deposed Spears’ father as the singer’s guardian. Jamie Spears (69) has been the guardian of his daughter since 2008 after the singer collapsed mentally due to personal and professional problems.
At the trial on September 30th, judge Britney had initially assigned a temporary guardian. The auditor John Zabel thus became the interim administrator of their assets. In this respect, too, the singer now has full decision-making power.
The court decision is a huge victory for Britney, who fought for her freedom for years. At dramatic court hearings in June and July, the singer violently attacked her father in emotional speeches and accused her family and carers that they were controlling their lives and enriching themselves with them.
