Munich, Rome, Zurich, Vienna Mario Jenal is not to be envied these days. He is the director of the mountain railways in Samnaun, a Swiss winter sports resort on the border with Austria. Ski tourists who depart from neighboring Ischgl are an important source of income for the region. But because of the different corona rules in Switzerland and Austria, chaos threatens.
Ischgl, one of the first Corona hotspots in Europe at the beginning of 2020, only sells ski passes to vaccinated and convalescent people. In Switzerland, however, the mountain railways are open to everyone. The compromise in Samnaun: Unvaccinated people can buy a day ticket for the Swiss lifts if the test is negative. But if you drive down the wrong side of the mountain, you risk not coming back to the Swiss side.
