Continental is strengthening the automated driving business area

Frankfurt, Dusseldorf According to circles, Germany’s third-largest automotive supplier Continental wants to set up its business with automated driving more independently and thus open up options for action. In perspective, this includes an IPO for the unit, which could significantly increase the value of Continental shares.

Within the automotive segment, the “Autonomous Mobility” business area alone should have its own global legal form by January 1, 2023, said a person familiar with the situation. That would be a first step towards making the unit independent.

According to financial and corporate circles, Continental is also considering a possible IPO of this business. However, these are still at an early stage and it could be a long time before decisions are made. In the end, Continental could also decide against this step.
