Berlin Actually, the traffic light coalition wanted the big breakthrough in construction, housing and urban development policy. But the project turns out to be complicated. The federal government will probably miss the goal of building 400,000 new apartments in Germany every year. “It will take some time,” concedes Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz in an interview with the Handelsblatt.

Nevertheless, the SPD politician speaks of a success of the construction policy. She refers to the work of an alliance for affordable housing with members from politics, business and civil society, which has met regularly since April. This Wednesday it presented its 67-page results paper in the Federal Chancellery. “There were tough arguments on the matter,” says Geywitz. In the end, however, all participants signed a uniform declaration.
