Confluence at Georgia Sarp Border Gate! (Video)

Due to the decline in the Turkish lira in the last few years in Turkey, inflation exceeding 80 percent and the high tax on electronic devices, people started to purchase devices from abroad. Of course, the Ministry of Commerce published a regulation in October and brought certain rules on this issue. However, as a result, those who wanted to buy a phone before the IMEI increase caused a stampede at the border.

Citizens are running abroad before the IMEI hike!

In the statement made by the Ministry of Commerce on October 20, it was announced that there was a change in the requirement to bring telephones from abroad. After that, as of November 1, inspections and confiscation of legally deported products began.

Accordingly, people who have brought a smartphone from abroad once -if they have it registered in their passports- cannot bring a second device into the country within 3 years. In addition, if the citizens coming from abroad have 2 or more phones with them or in their bags, they are controlled through the system created by the BTK and the Ministry of Commerce.

In other words, it is forbidden to bring a second device to a spouse, friend, relative or for the purpose of selling. For this reason, everyone who wants to buy a smart phone from abroad should go and obtain this product and register their passport IMEI.

But there was an unexpected downside to this situation. As of January 1, the IMEI registration fee hike will take effect. This amount, which is currently 2 thousand 732 TL, will increase to 6 thousand 90 TL. For this reason, thousands of people went to Georgia 5 days before the new year and tried to get a phone, causing a stampede at the Sarp Border Gate.
