Berlin After the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines, there are growing concerns about further blows to European infrastructure. In addition to gas lines, the focus could also be on power lines or telecommunications cables that are laid in the seas.

This could disrupt the flow of energy and information to Europe, several representatives of the security authorities fear in an interview with the Handelsblatt. A large number of lines that could become possible targets run through the North and Baltic Seas as well as through the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic.

Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) explained with regard to the pipeline incident that this shows again how closely external and internal security are linked. “We have to prepare for scenarios that were unthinkable until recently.”
