Frankfurt Commerzbank became the victim of a case of blackmail in which the perpetrator sent dangerous letters. The police headquarters in Central Franconia warn of dangerous mail after a flash of flame from a letter in a Commerzbank branch in Nuremberg, Germany’s second largest private bank announced on Wednesday.

The police assume that this is part of an extortion case against Commerzbank. The previously unknown perpetrator could circulate more such programs that would be aimed specifically at Commerzbank branches and their customers, the bank said.

According to the police, a letter was received at the Commerzbank branch in Nuremberg on March 24. When it was opened, a chemical reaction caused a flash of flame. Fortunately, the employee who opened the envelope was not seriously injured.

According to the police, experts from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) checked the letter. They assume that the ignition was caused intentionally.
