Washington Manfred Knof fears that the various crises will make Germany and Europe less attractive for major international investors. In an interview with the Handelsblatt, the Commerzbank boss admits that US investors in particular are “looking critically at Europe and Germany”. The US investment companies Cerberus and Capital Group recently left Commerzbank.

Knof emphasizes that despite all the merger rumors, he wants to defend Commerzbank’s independence. The banker is also building on the support of the federal government as the largest shareholder. As an anchor shareholder, the federal government will “remain on board for the foreseeable future. The federal government supports our course and our efforts to secure the independence of the bank,” emphasizes the Commerzbank boss.
