Bayern against Robert Lewandowski (34)!
The super striker, who left his club this summer, is coming back with his new club, playing with FC Barcelona against the German record champions.
Board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic (45) on the Lewandowski draw: “Only football writes such stories. We’re looking forward to it. We had them last season too. Barcelona have strengthened well, they have a top team, of course also with Lewy. It will be two very exciting games.”
But: Immediately after the draw, there are first discordant notes from Spain!
The trigger is a scene that was shown on TV during the draw. When Barcelona joined the Bayern group, the camera switched to Bayern boss Oliver Kahn (53) – who couldn’t help but grin briefly.
Apparently not everyone in Spain likes the actually harmless and understandable reaction after the crazy draw! The newspaper “Sport” complains: “Kahn scoffs at Barça. It was an unusual reaction from a manager taking part in the draw where respect is actually the norm.”
The background to the attack is probably the long wrangling about the Lewandowski change. With his famous “Basta” Kahn had clearly ruled out a transfer in the summer. Only when the Catalans had increased their offer to 45 million euros fixed plus 5 million bonus payments did Kahn collect his “basta” again. This is probably still causing a bad mood in Spain…
A Bayern star, on the other hand, reacts funny to the Barcelona lot. Joker Thomas Müller greeted his ex-colleague on Instagram: “Mr Lewangoalski, see you soon in Munich” and then added in German: “I’m looking forward to it!”
Lewandowski actually didn’t want to play against his former club that early. Only recently he said in SPORT BILD: “No, it doesn’t have to be in the preliminary round yet. Bayern should play against other teams first…”
Other Bayern opponents are Inter Milan and Viktoria Pilsen. Salihamidzic makes it clear: “Of course we’re favorites, but it’s not easy. The group is tough, but we’re all looking forward to it. These are top stadiums and attractive opponents.”
