The car manufacturer survived the serious crisis in the course of the corona pandemic well, at least financially.

Munich A decent start to the year in Munich: After the record profit in 2021, BMW again presented good figures for the first quarter on Thursday. The war in Ukraine and the lockdowns in China are slowing sales by a good six percent. But because BMW takes higher prices and sells more luxury models overall, the operating return in the car business is better than expected at 13.2 percent.

The first-time full consolidation of the Chinese business, in which a majority was acquired in February, also brought the group an operating profit of 12.2 billion euros, four times more than in the previous year.

BMW has survived the severe crisis in the course of the corona pandemic well, at least financially. The group has already caught up strongly in the past year. While production and sales stood still for months in 2020, the carmaker was largely able to produce smoothly last year. Only the chip crisis slowed things down in the fourth quarter.
