Chainalysis Releases New Report on Cryptocurrency Hacking Incidents!

Hacking events now bitcoin and cryptocurrency does not surprise the community. Even during the tough bear market period, the crypto community had to deal with the attacks.

However, the size of hacking attacks is also increasing. Millions of dollars have been lost in recent months. Russian and North Korean hacker groups are usually cited as the names behind the attacks.

A new report by Chainalysis reveals that crypto mixers are receiving increasing amounts of illegal crypto streams.

Hacking Events in the Cryptocurrency World and the Loss Caused by them Increased

According to the report, the 30-day moving average of the value collected by the mixers managed to climb as high as $51.8 million in April. Illegal addresses accounted for 23 percent of funds sent to these mixers during the year. This rate was almost double the 12 percent sent last year.

As seen in the image above, about 10 percent of all funds sent from illegal addresses are sent to crypto mixers.

Mixers are probably one of the most closed sectors in the crypto world. Money laundering activities come to the fore here as the transaction history is hidden. Tornado Cash is an important platform for hackers.

These mixers got most of these funds from Hydra Marketplace, a Russian darknet. The North Korean government-backed Lazarus Group came in second, just behind Russia. While this chart is limited to sanctioned entities, illegal activity appears to be high in both regions.

As seen in the image above, Hydra accounts for 50 percent of the funds. It is worth remembering that this organization was sanctioned in April 2022. Hydra has often come to the fore in the crypto world as it uses these assets to operate on the dark web.
