CERN storage capacity reached 1 million TB

CERN, one of the world’s most important science research centers, announced that it has increased the total disk capacity in data storage. Accordingly, the institution 1 million terabytes of storage (1 exabyte) and reached the turning point.

In the new announcement made by CERN, they announced that they have 1024 petabytes of storage space. This corresponds to 1 million terabytes or 1 exabyte. Let us remind you that the research institution has a storage capacity of 735 petabytes in 2022.

Much of CERN’s massive storage infrastructure relies on hard disk drives (HDD). However, the organization also announced that it has started to move its data to SSD. Studies have shown that SSDs provide better reliability than HDDs, but they are expensive.
