In the new announcement made by CERN, they announced that they have 1024 petabytes of storage space. This corresponds to 1 million terabytes or 1 exabyte. Let us remind you that the research institution has a storage capacity of 735 petabytes in 2022.
Much of CERN’s massive storage infrastructure relies on hard disk drives (HDD). However, the organization also announced that it has started to move its data to SSD. Studies have shown that SSDs provide better reliability than HDDs, but they are expensive.

Let us note that CERN has experienced a significant increase in storage capacity in the last decade. For example, the institution, which had only 32 petabytes of space in 2012, has now reached 1024 petabytes. This means that it grew by 3100 percent in ten years.
