Paris Thomas Buberl stands out from the circle of bosses of the companies listed in the leading French index for two reasons: At 49, the CEO of the insurance giant Axa is still relatively young – and he comes from Germany.

In an interview with the Handelsblatt, the expert on the two largest economies in the EU looks at the situation in the neighboring country before the presidential elections, which begin with the first round on Sunday. Two weeks later, a run-off election takes place, in which the two best-placed candidates from the first ballot face each other. According to the polls, as in 2017, these are likely to be the current head of state Emmanuel Macron and the right-wing populist Marine Le Pen.
