Berlin The CDU wants to take a hard line against Chinese influence on German universities through so-called Confucius Institutes. A corresponding decision is to be taken at the federal party conference next weekend in Hanover. This emerges from the application book for the delegate meeting, which is available to the Handelsblatt.
In a statement by the CDU motions commission on two party congress motions, it says that the CDU is committed to “that the public institutions in the Federal Republic of Germany, particularly universities and schools, end their cooperation with the Confucius Institutes after a thorough examination”. “Research espionage and an unwanted outflow of technology must be prevented via the Confucius Institutes,” it continues.
