CD Projekt RED does not want to be ‘acquired’

Sony and Microsoft have now completely taken over the gaming industry. Both companies are purchasing and acquiring well-established companies in the gaming community one by one. The biggest example of this is the Activision-Microsoft acquisition. Polish developer CD Projekt RED said it would not be involved in this trend.

CD Projekt RED does not want to be acquired by any company

CD Projekt RED (CDPR) has once again flatly rejected its intention to be acquired, demonstrating its determination to maintain its independence in the dynamic environment of the gaming industry. There have been persistent rumors of potential acquisitions involving Sony, but CDPR is determined to remain independent.

In a recent interview with Polish publication Parkiet, CEO Adam Kiciński underlined the studio’s long-standing stance on acquisitions and explained that CDPR had been strengthened against the possibility of a hostile takeover.

You probably didn’t know that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is a reference to the legendary GTA game. Here are the details!

Kiciński stated that the company’s resistance to being incorporated into a larger organization was not just a matter of preference, but was also supported by the regulations incorporated into the studio’s charter. These safeguards are designed to protect CD Projekt RED from undue takeovers and ensure that the studio maintains control over its creative direction and business decisions.

The CEO’s comments also belie Microsoft’s past expressed interest in acquiring CD Projekt RED. Although the studio has flatly denied that it is in acquisition talks with Sony, it has been revealed that Microsoft is considering CDPR among its potential acquisition options.

Kiciński’s statement reflects the studio’s unwavering commitment to its independence and shows that their current position, achieved through years of hard work, will grow even stronger in the coming years.

Known for critically acclaimed games such as The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED will maintain its trajectory of growth and flexibility, anticipating a future in which the studio becomes even more important.
