Berlin At its first cabinet meeting in Meseberg, the traffic light government will talk about the consequences of the Russian attack on Ukraine and climate change. Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced this on Tuesday before the start of the two-day consultations in Meseberg.

In the morning they want to talk to the Prime Ministers of Sweden and Finland, Magdalena Andersson and Sanna Marin, about the new security situation in Europe after the Russian attack. “That’s why it’s very, very important that we talk to each other here about security issues that are important for Europe, these countries, but also for us,” said Scholz.

The background is also that both previously neutral EU countries are considering joining the western defense alliance NATO.

In the afternoon, the question will be what the economic consequences of the war and the conversion to a climate-neutral economy are. The cabinet wants to discuss this with Michael Hüther, Director of the Institute of German Economics, and Sebastian Dullien, Director of the Institute for Macroeconomics and Business Cycle Research.

The government wants to continue on its course of modernizing the economy, said Scholz.
