Representatives of the 27 EU countries have with us on Tuesday morning in Brussels Discussions on the planned EU sanctions against Russia began. As diplomats from the German Press Agency confirmed, the EU Commission and the Foreign Service made a statement concrete proposal for sanctions in front. According to information from EU circles, it includes in particular Sanctions against numerous individuals, but also other measures. There was initially no information about details. Any person, organization or company that is placed on the EU sanctions list will have all of their assets in the EU frozen. In addition, listed persons are no longer allowed to enter the EU and no more business can be done with those affected.
The full arsenal of sanction options according to dpa information from diplomats are not yet used. Sanctions, for example, against Russia’s energy sector and export bans on high-tech technology have been prepared in case Russia launches an attack on all of Ukraine.
All sanctions must ultimately be decided by the EU Council of Ministers. The decision can also be made in writing. The foreign ministers are expected to agree on the exact procedure at a special meeting this Tuesday in Paris.
