Speaking at the DealBook conference today, a Bitcoin and Ethereum statement came from Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Saying that he has been interested in cryptocurrencies for a while and researching this issue, the CEO emphasized that his interest is more on a personal dimension.
Asked whether he owns Bitcoin or Ethereum, Cook confirmed that he owns BTC and ETH as part of a diversified portfolio.
Stating that his words should not be considered as investment advice, the CEO stated that it is not possible for Apple to accept cryptocurrencies or keep cryptocurrencies on its balance sheet for now.
“I personally hold Bitcoin and Ethereum. I think it’s reasonable to have it as part of a diversified portfolio. By the way, I do not give investment advice to anyone. I have been interested in cryptocurrencies for a while and have been researching the subject. As Apple, I will not invest in crypto. I’m saying this not because I won’t do it with my own money, but because I don’t think people will buy Apple stock to get exposure to cryptocurrency.”
Apple is the second largest company in the world by its current market value of $2.4 trillion. Apple does not currently have a cryptocurrency service. The company allows cryptocurrency platform apps on the App Store, but not mining apps.
