New York, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf Bosch wants to invest 1.5 billion dollars in a new chip production facility in California. According to information from the Handelsblatt, the corresponding contracts were already signed on Monday evening. This is the largest single investment in Bosch history.

For this purpose, the German foundation group is buying an existing factory from the Californian company TSI Semiconductors, which is to be converted to energy-saving chips made of silicon carbide under the Bosch brand in the future. Both companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. According to reports, it is clearly in the three-digit million range.

“With the planned investment in the USA, we are also positioning our semiconductor production globally,” said Bosch boss Stefan Hartung. Bosch wants to modernize the factory in the coming years – and hopes to recoup a significant part of the necessary $ 1.5 billion through federal subsidy programs and subsidies from California. The expected funding amount is also likely to be well into the three-digit million dollar range.
