Bonus ban for state aid? Companies fear disadvantages

Dusseldorf The dispute over a possible ban on dividends and bonuses in the planned gas and electricity price brakes is causing resentment in the German economy. Shareholder representatives for listed companies as well as medium-sized companies and consultants warn against making profit distribution too strict for companies if they want to take advantage of state aid.

They fear that a corresponding restriction on the use of funds could result in German companies being at a disadvantage compared to the competition in the global battle for skilled workers. Some even warn of de-industrialization.

In its draft for the state support program presented on Tuesday, the federal government initially did not provide for a ban on dividend payments and bonus payments. The Budget Committee of the Bundestag, on the other hand, had previously decided to link the use of energy price brakes to a bonus and dividend ban.
