Bitcoin Platform CoinMarketCap Allegedly Hacked!

This time, hackers targeted Bitcoin and cryptocurrency price tracking platform CoinMarketCap.

According to the report of the site called “Have I Been Pwned”, which examines hacking events and hacked accounts, it was revealed that a total of 3.1 million users’ e-mail addresses were seized.

CoinMarketCap, which Binance recently acquired, confirmed the hack, saying:

CoinMarketCap has noticed the emergence of online data piles that look like lists of user accounts. Even though the data lists we see are just email addresses, they match our subscriber base.

However, we did not find any evidence of data leakage on our own servers. We are actively investigating this issue. As soon as we get new information, we will inform our subscribers.

Although CoinMarketCap previously confirmed that 3,117,548 user emails were compromised, the hackers stated that they did not gain access to any account passwords.

Although the hacking incident has been confirmed by the company, the exact reason, by whom and the hacking method used is still unknown.

The company assured that the hack did not originate from its own servers, and stated that the hackers may have obtained the addresses from another site or that their users had reused the password on more than one site.

Stating that they were sorry about the hacking incident, the company also stated that they carried out a detailed research and security audit regarding the incident.
