Washington In the midst of the subsidy dispute, US President Joe Biden and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen want to meet in Washington on March 10th. The US Presidential Office announced on Thursday that talks are planned about an American-European coordination in the fight against the climate crisis using investments in clean technologies based on secure supply chains.

The multi-billion dollar US subsidy package IRA had recently annoyed the Europeans. Among other things, the project promotes the settlement of electric car and battery cell factories in the USA. The program has a total volume of 430 billion dollars.

In Europe, concerns about relocation of factories have been fueled. Around three weeks ago, the EU decided at a special summit to allow member states more “targeted, temporary and proportionate” state subsidies for companies in order to be able to compete with the USA for the production of environmentally friendly technologies. Detailed decisions are to be made at the EU summit in March.
