Bethesda spokesperson talks about Fallout 76’s failure

Bethesda veteran Bruce Nesmith, who has been working at the company for nearly 30 years, evaluated the problematic launch of Fallout 76 and attributed it to the company’s overconfidence. While Bethesda has a history of acclaimed games, Fallout 76 was one of those that failed to make it.

“We succumbed to our own arrogance while developing Fallout 76”

Nesmith stated that the focuses were scattered throughout the development process, and this lack of direction was clearly visible at launch. “To some extent, we succumbed to our own hubris” he admitted.

The studio’s multiple Game of the Year successes led them to believe they were invincible. Nesmith emphasized that this inflated self-confidence is a misjudgment.

He continued: “We began to convince ourselves that we were infallible, that there was nothing we couldn’t do. Frankly, this was wrong.”
