Dusseldorf The federal government wants to end Germany’s dependence on Russian natural gas as soon as possible after the attack on Ukraine. In addition, Chancellor Olaf Scholz had announced the construction of several LNG terminals in Brunsbüttel and Wilhelmshaven. The terminal in Wilhelmshaven will be built by the project company Tree Energy Solutions (TES), which is backed by the Belgian investor group Atlasinvest.
“The federal government has asked us to integrate an LNG terminal into our planned hydrogen factory in order to reduce import dependency on Russia as quickly as possible,” says Otto Waterlander, Chief Operational Officer of TES, in an interview with the Handelsblatt. This request will be complied with. The terminal is scheduled to go into operation in three years.
In his speech during a special session of the Bundestag on Sunday, Chancellor Scholz emphasized that the Federal Republic needed its own capacities to import liquefied natural gas from other countries.
