Munich The Baywa agricultural trading group expects fertilizer prices to remain high. Baywa announced on Thursday that because prices had at times almost tripled in the past year, many German farmers were reluctant to buy. As a result, they now have low inventories and keep demand high. In addition, energy-intensive fertilizer production has become more expensive as a result of the Ukraine war.

Last year, Baywa recorded a sales decline of more than seven percent across all fertilizer types. For the current year, the group sees additional sales potential for fertilizer – because it can deliver.

Baywa CEO Klaus Josef Lutz says: “During the ongoing pandemic, we always kept our operations open and, thanks to our warehouses and modern logistics, we were almost always able to deliver in all segments from agriculture to construction to energy.” Baywa is also in the building materials trade and active in the energy sector.
